Symptoms of Plantar Fasciitis
Plantar Fasciitis is a condition that affects the arch of the foot and the most common cause of heel pain. This is often seen in middle age people. Pain is most commonly felt at the heel of the foot and radiates into the arch. The heel (calcaneus) is the insertion point of the plantar fascia, muscles and ligaments that form the arch of the foot. This insertion point of the fascia is stressed during strenuous and repetitive activities. Plantar Fasciitis is most commonly seen in runners, soldiers, people who are overweight and those with poor arch supported footwear.
Repetitive stresses to the fascial arch cause micro tears which in turn produce pain and inflammation within the foot arch. Repetitive movements on the feet can cause joints within the foot and ankle to jam. Proper movement through the foot joints are key to proper arch function. Make sure to have your chiropractor assess and adjust needed areas in your feet to correct for these joint dysfunctions.
Conservative treatments for this condition has shown to have great results reducing pain and inflammation. Ice and rest along with stretching of the calf and arch of the foot will help reduce pain and increase flexibility. Insoles with good arch support will help relieve stress on the fascia and muscles. Treatments such as ultrasound and manual muscle therapy which Northern Edge Chiropractic LLC also get results with plantar fasciitis pain.
