What is Yin Yoga?

Yin yoga is a slow paced style of yoga with postures that are held for longer periods of time. Each pose is held for 1 to 5 minutes, with the idea of keeping a firm position yet relaxed posture. The focus of yin yoga is to put moderate stress/stretch on the connective tissue of the body, with a more meditative approach, cultivating inner silence and bringing to light a universal, interconnecting quality of the mind and body. Yin yoga is a great safe way to improved range of motion, improve flexibility and increase circulation of the joints.

What is Vinyasa Yoga?

Vinyasa is a Sanskrit word that is roughly translated into “arranging something in a certain way”. Vinyasa yoga is a flowing, dynamic sequence of poses that synchronizes breath while continuously flowing through different postures.

Vinyasa yoga is great for building strength, improving breathing, increasing flexibility and improving balance/proprioception. Every Vinyasa yoga class is based around an intention that is set at the beginning of the class as a goal to be completed by the end of the exercises. Vinyasa yoga is one of the most common styles of yoga practiced in the United States.

*The most common Vinyasa yoga sequence involves 3 poses, a chaturanga followed by an upward dog then pushing back into a downward dog. This Vinyasa sequence will be completed multiple times during one class, as it is intended to be a time to reconnect to your breath and get ready for the next series of poses.
